Generating
Your Plot
- Open the
program to an empty plot (or open a saved plot).
- Click the
Story Generator button on the toolbar or select Story Generator
in the Tools menu.
- In the
Story Generator, fill in the names of the Hero, Bad Guy and
Love Interest and select a story structure (3 Acts, 4 Acts,
8 Sequences or No Structure).
- Clicking
on the Generate Story button will automatically fill the nine
boxes in the scrolling area to the right.
- Read each
of the generated plot points and check the checkbox next to
those you like and want to keep. You can edit the plot point
or just type in your own plot point if none of the generated
plot points work for your story.
- Every time
you click the Generate Story button, the program fills the boxes
without a check mark with a new generated plot point.
- When all
the checkboxes are filled with check marks, click either the
Done: Create Full Plot or Done: Create Basic Plot button.
- You will
return to the main plot screen. QuickStory 5 has automatically
generated a complete plot with the tree heirarchy and your plot
points appearing in the right box. Click through the tree to
see where each of your plot points ended up in the structure.
Developing
Your Plot
- The first
thing you'll notice about the generated structure is that each
tree item is labeled with things like "First Turning Point:
1-2 Scenes" and "Post Turn: 1-2 Scenes." These
are designed to help guide you through developing the rest of
your plot. For example, "Post Turn: 1-2 Scenes" is
the period after a major turning point and should consist of
one or two scenes.
- Add items
to the tree and label them with your scenes to fill out your
plot.
If
you don't need to create an entire plot but need help with a
single scene or plot point, the Plot Point Generator will give
you options to choose from. This is a great way to make sure
every step in your story is what you want and what your story
needs.
- Simply
select a tree item and click the "Plot Point Generator"
button on the toobar or select "Plot Point Generator"
from the Tools menu.
- In
the Plot Point Generator, click the button on the left that
corresponds with the point in the story you need an idea
for. Everytime you click one of the buttons, an new idea
appears in the box on the right.
- When
you find a new plot point, select "Okay" and the
new plot point will replace the old plot point in your structure
on the main plot screen.
- In the
right-side box, add details, information or dialogue for each
of the scenes. You have full editing features (cut, copy, paste)
and full text formatting features (bold, italic, font, underline,
strikeout and more).
- QuickStory
makes it easy to organize and re-organize your plot. Simply
drag and drop a tree item/scene and the contents in the right-side
box associated with that tree item will move with it.
Putting
it all Together - Final Editing and Printing
- Clicking
on the little notepad icon on the toolbar or selecting Plot
Pad on the Tools menu will give you Plot Pad. QuickStory 5 automatically
combines all the information in all of the tree items and formats
it for you into one complete story structure.
- Plot Pad
is a fully functioning word processor with advanced editing
features, like font, font size, color, bold, italics, underline
and a lot more.
- You can
print your story from Plot Pad.
- You can
also save your character as a Rich Text Format file (.rtf),
which can be read by any word processing program for further
editing, or can be opened by Plot Pad to be edited at a later
time.
- Or simply
cut and paste your story into your favorite word processor.
